According to the Law "On North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve" adopted in December 11, 1997, North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve (NVBR) is a specially protected territory of international importance. NVBR is member of the UNESCO international program MaB (Man and Biosphere) network. The territory of the reserve covers internationally recognised wood and coastal protective habitats. Reserve is managed by the Administration of ZNVBR which is supervised by the Ministry of Environment.
